There may be no better example of art imitating life.

Winona Ryder and Keanu Reeves star in the romantic comedy “Destination Wedding”, but this is not the first time the two have depicted love on screen.

The “Stranger Things” actress and Canadian “The Matrix” star played opposite each other in 1992’s “Bram Stoker’s Dracula”. Reflecting on their past work together, Ryder made a shocking and somewhat hilarious revelation.

“We actually got married in ‘Dracula’. No, I swear to god I think we’re married in real life,” Ryder told both Reeves and EW. “In that scene, Francis [Ford Coppola] used a real Romanian priest,” she explained. “We shot the master and he did the whole thing. So I think we’re married.”

Reeves teased, “It’s lovely to see you again.” But Ryder persisted, explaining the pair said their “I dos.”

“We said yes?” asked Reeves. Ryder elaborated: “Don’t you remember that? It was on Valentine’s Day.” Finally, Reeves came to terms with the possibility, “Oh my gosh, we’re married.”

The Guardian reached out to Coppola on the issue and the director agreed that Reeves and Ryder may in fact have been married.

He explained that during shooting they decided “having the real wedding ceremony as it might be in that religion [Greek Orthodox Christianity] would be beautiful”.

“This is pretty authentic and I think very beautiful, because we actually did the ceremony and had the priest do the ceremony,” Coppola added. “So in a sense, when we were all done, we realized that Keanu and Winona really are married as a result of this scene and this ceremony.”

Reeves appeared on Monday’s episode of “The Talk” where he revealed Ryder refers to him as her “husband”.
