Sometimes the musical collaborations that we least expect wind up as our favourites, and that could be the case with a bonkers new video that partners Lil Yachty and Donny Osmond to extol the virtues of canned pasta.
According to Complex, the unforeseen collab was commissioned by Chef Boyardee to celebrate the brand’s 90th anniversary, with the rapper and the 1970s teen idol putting their unique spin on the jingle, “Thank Goodness for Chef Boyardee” as part of the company’s “Throwback Recipe Series”.
“This work pays tribute to the past and the future of the classic Chef Boyardee brand,” said Jason Peterson of Havas Creative, the ad agency responsible for the video. “We gave every audience, from baby boomers to millennials, something that they could relate to, formed an idea around it and released it in a modern way by doing a full-length music video.”
While the ad agency may have driven the project, Complex points out that the 20-year-old “Peek a Boo” rapper and the 60-year-old star of “The Donny and Marie Show” were each “heavily involved in the jingle’s creative process” as co-writers and co-producers of the track.
