Police have become involved after British tabloid the Sun published shocking video in which rock musician Liam Gallagher is seen apparently grabbing girlfriend Debbie Gwyther by the throat in what the newspaper described as a “vicious bust-up” back in August.
According to a new report from the Sun, the former Oasis rocker has been questioned by police about the incident, with Gallagher visiting a police station “by appointment” on Sept. 25. He was not arrested.
According to the Sun, Gallagher — who denies he assaulted Gwyther — was read his constitutional rights and interviewed on tape; he’ll be formally notified if police take any further action.
“Officers are aware of footage of an incident consistent with assault believed to have taken place in August 2018 at a licensed venue in Chiltern Street, Marylebone,” a police spokesperson said. “The footage has been assessed and inquiries will be made into the circumstances surrounding the alleged incident. No specific allegations have been received at this time.”
The CCTV footage shows Gallagher and Gwyther — whom he’s dated since 2014 — at what’s purported to be the Chiltern Firehouse in London.
In the video, below, Gallagher can be seen placing his hand at Gwyther’s throat:
Following the Sun‘s report, both Gallagher, 45, and Gwyther, 36, took to social media to deny allegations that he assaulted her.
Gwyther posted a statement on Instagram. “Shame on them,” she blasted the Sun.
