Sarah McLachlan admits she’s becoming nearly as well known as a spokesperson decrying animal cruelty than she is as a singer-songwriter, and in a recent interview with Makers says that where old women in Target have recognized her as “that dog lady”; due to heart-wrenching commercials for the APSCA.

Featuring horrific images of abused puppies accompanied by her song “Angel,”; McLachlan admits that the PSAs are so heart-breaking that even she can’t bear to watch.

“I can’t watch them,”; she says. “It just kills me.”;

However, the PSAs have been incredibly successful as a fundraising tool. “I said those words, the song went with the pictures, and it raised 30 million bucks,”; she explains. “It really hit home in a profound way, and there were articles written about how we’d changed the face of fundraising.”; See if you can stand to watch:
