While numerous people took to social media to praise Nike for its bold, provocative ad featuring controversial NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick, an opposing view was shared by country singer John Rich.
One half of the duo Big & Rich, the 44-year-old country star slammed Nike for the ad:
In his Nike-blasting tweets, Rich included a photo of Kaepernick’s “pig socks,” which he wore at the San Francisco 49ers training camp in 2016.
The QB wore the socks in protest, he explained at the time, “because the rogue cops that are allowed to hold positions in police departments, not only put the community in danger but also put the cops that have the right intentions in danger by creating an environment of tension and mistrust.”
Rich was not a fan of Kaepernick’s socks or his habit of taking a knee during the U.S. national anthem and clearly does not share his view about law enforcement:
In subsequent tweets, Rich even shared a photo of his “soundman”:

While Rich was writing about #PIGSOCKS, other celebrities ranging from fellow athlete Serena Williams to movie director Ava DuVernay to former CIA director John Brennan used social media to share some very different opinions:
