Instagram can be a wonderful way for celebs to share family photos and promote projects but it can also be an online snakepit full of rude comments and obnoxious remarks, which Tori Spelling discovered when she shared a cute photo of her smiling children on their first day of school.

School officially began today for my 4 older kiddos… This marks the first year that they’ll all be in the same school at the same time. You know what that means? For one year and one year only ONLY 1 drop off= Happy Mom 💁🏼♀️And, Finn started Kindergarten at his new school and felt so proud to be at his big boy school with his older brother and sisters. #ThisIsFourInElementarySchool #SixthGrade #FifthGrade #FirstGrade #Kindergarten #Liam #Stella ##Hattie #Finn
While many of Spelling’s Instagram followers offered positive comments about the sweet photo, others took a nastier approach, criticizing the kids’ clothing, weight, and other aspects of their appearance.
“They just rolled out of bed and put on what was on the floor,” sniped one comment, while another dissed the kids as “looking somewhat disheveled.”
“The kids are fat. Fat isn’t healthy,” another wrote, while another took Spelling to task for letting her children “get so unfit.”
Spelling, however, was not having it and clapped back with a comment of her own.
“I am a proud mama bear and I enjoy sharing our family journey with my family, friends, fans and online supportive and loyal community,” she wrote in response to the negative comments.
“For all the individuals on here that felt the need to #momshame and #kidshame me and my children I say ‘Shame on you!’ I was raised to believe that if you can’t say anything nice about someone then don’t say anything at all.”
