Love is a powerful thing.
Dugg Kirkpatrick organized a GoFundMe campaign to help “Gilligan’s Island” star Dawn Wells pay off $200,000 in medical bills. The Internet rallied together and collected nearly $140,000 in 10 days.
“She did not know that I was setting it up,” Kirkpatrick told People. “She was very upset with me, probably still is a little upset with me because she’s a little bit embarrassed. But being her dearest friend, I know that this is the best thing. Today she seems to be more on board with it because she’s seeing all the positive things people are saying.”
According to the GoFundMe description, “Dawn was a victim of an unexpected accident that required hospitalization for two months and a very long time to rest and heal.” She had “lost everything including her life savings” following the 2008 bank crash and underwent “a life-threatening surgery which came close to killing her.”
The $200,000 will help “to alleviate penalties by the IRS” and cover her hospital expenses.
Wells, 79, played Mary Ann Summers on “Gilligan’s Island”.
