Barack Obama says the police officers at Disneyland exude the same infectious attitude made famous by “The Happiest Place on Earth”.

The former U.S. president spoke in Anaheim — the home of Walt Disney’s original theme park — on Saturday in support of seven Democratic congressional candidates. Taking in his surroundings, Obama shared two stories: one from his youth and one from college.

“I went to Disneyland twice when I was younger. The first time was when I was 11 years old,” he said. “Now there is no better time to go to Disneyland than when you’re 11 years old. I lived in Hawaii, so this was my first big trip to the mainland.

“It was an amazing trip… but Disneyland was the highlight,” he said of the trip with his grandmother, mom and sister. “I went and did all the Bare Necessity things and the Small World, the Matterhorn. It was the bomb.”

He returned to the beloved attraction years later as a college student at Occidental College following a Kool & The Gang concert.

“After the concert… you could still hang out in the park, so we went into the gondolas. I’m ashamed to say this, so close your ears, young people. But a few of us were smoking on the gondolas,” he confessed to audible cheers from the crowd. “These were cigarettes, people. Terrible thing. They do. They kill you. I stopped.”

He was caught red-handed by two Disneyland police officers. “I was booted from the Magic Kingdom,” Obama continued. “At the end, they said, ‘You’re going to have to leave, sir, for breaking the rules of the Magic Kingdom, but you are welcome to come back any time.’”
