J.K. Rowling Slams Cartoonist For Drawing ‘Racist’ Picture Of Serena Williams And Naomi Osaka After US Open Match

J.K. Rowling was among numerous people slamming the Herald Sun‘s editorial cartoonist after he released a picture of Serena Williams and Naomi Osaka over the weekend.

Mark Knight’s image in question shows Williams, who labelled the umpire a “thief” after she lost to Osaka during the U.S. Open final, was portrayed as a big black baby, while he drew Osaka as a blonde girl in the background.

Rowling called the artist on Twitter “racist and sexist.”

Social media users also picked up on the fact that Knight “whitewashed” Osaka, who is from Japan.

Williams and Osaka’s match at Arthur Ashe Stadium in Queens, New York, was interrupted by several confrontations between Williams and tournament officials, as umpire Carlos Ramos handed her several violations throughout the contest.

The new mom was given her first violation for gestures made by her coach, Patrick Mouratoglou. Things then heated up when Williams smashed her racket and received her second violation. “You owe me an apology!” she said. “I have never cheated in my life!”
