David Henrie is best known to Disney Channel fans from his role opposite Selena Gomez in “The Wizards of Waverly Place”, but he may have a whole new claim to fame as “that guy who got arrested for trying to bring a loaded handgun through airport security.”

As Us Weekly reports, the 29-year-old actor was arrested at LAX on Monday, taken into police custody when security staff detected the gun as Henrie was passing through security.

Law enforcement sources confirmed to TMZ that Henrie was passing through a standard TSA screening on Monday morning when agents discovered the loaded weapon, reportedly an M&P Shield 9mm pistol. “Henrie was immediately detained and taken to a nearby station,” TMZ reported.

“David Henrie was arrested at 9:05 a.m. for possession of a loaded firearm at an airport screening at LAX,” an airport spokesperson said in a statement. “He has been booked into the LAPD Pacific Division Jail and will be released on his own recognizance.”

TMZ caught up with Henrie after his release, and he said that everything will be cleared up soon.

“I’m going to release a statement later,” says Henrie in the video below, insisting the statement “will make it all clear” while confirming that the gun was his.

“The police were great, they were very kind, very nice people,” he added. “I have nothing but respect for them. They were very nice to me.” Watch:

As he promised, Henrie released a statement shortly after, via Twitter. Taking full responsibility, Henrie explains that he “unintentionally brought my legally owned gun which is registered in my name to the airport… More than anything I am humiliated and embarrassed that this even happened.”
