“Bridesmaids” remains one of the biggest comedy hits of the past decade yet its director doesn’t think a sequel to the 2011 film will ever happen.

Speaking after the premiere of his latest film, “A Simple Favor”, director Paul Feig admitted to Variety, “I don’t know if there will be one, honestly. That movie worked so well because it was about a woman having a crisis in her life and fixing it. So you don’t want her to have another crisis.”

Besides Feig’s reluctance to go to the well again, re-assembling the film’s cast would also be a challenge, given that the profiles of stars Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Rose Byrne, Maya Rudolph, and Wendi McLendon-Covey have all risen considerably in light of the film’s success.

In a 2011 interview with Time Out, McCarthy discussed the role that proved to be her big-screen breakthrough, admitting that projects like “Bridesmaids” don’t come around that often.

“Everything about this seemed rare to me,” she said. “It seemed rare to have characters that were female that weren’t stereotypes and were actually funny. So often you see female characters that are, you know, [Girlishly] all fighting about nail polish! I’m like, ‘Well, I’ve never done that in my life,’ I don’t know any women that do that — God bless them if they do.”
