Donald Trump has been on the receiving end of much backlash recently, and there’s a whole lot more coming his way thanks to a gesture he used during a 9/11 memorial service that many people felt was inappropriate.
As People reports, the president and First Lady Melania Trump greeted his supporters with a double fist pump as the couple headed into a memorial service honouring the people who lost their lives on United Airlines Flight 93 back on Sept. 11, 2001.
Trump’s triumphant gesture was seemingly at odds with the sombre occasion and did not go unnoticed on social media.
In fact, celebrities ranging from comedian Patton Oswalt to Chrissy Teigen took to Twitter to mock Trump.
On Wednesday, late-night talk-show hosts James Corden and Trevor Noah took aim at the president on their respective shows for his 9/11 tweet and the photo of him “fist-pumping” the air that stirred up social media.
“An excited clap and a double fist bump,” Corden said. “Because as we all know the most appropriate way to reflect on a national tragedy is to look like you just won free tickets to a Guns N’ Roses concert.”
“Honestly, Trump is so bad at 9/11,” began Noah, “it feels like at some point in his presidency he’s going to mix it up completely with a different holiday. I wouldn’t be shocked if he shows up to Ground Zero in a Halloween costume. But knowing Trump, he’d just roll with it. ‘I’m wishing everyone a spooktacular 9/11!'”
