Shania Twain is finding inspiration in another beloved Canadian singer.
The 2018 Canadian Country Music Association Awards host praised Avril Lavigne on the event’s red carpet on Sunday. “It’s a battle,” Twain said of Lyme Disease, an affliction both her and Lavigne have struggled with.
“I’m inspired that she’s going out there and carrying on,” Twain explained to Canadian Press. “And not letting it get in her way.”
The “Sk8ter Boi” singer revealed in 2015 she was diagnosed with Lyme Disease. Her upcoming single “Head Above Water” promotes her first album in five years set to release in late 2018.
Twain retired from performing in 2004 and took an indefinite hiatus from music, years later revealing Lyme Disease ravaged her voice. The country icon released her first album in 15 years with 2017’s Now.
“We all have obstacles in her life, I’m not letting Lyme’s effects stop me,” Twain said. “I’m happy to see that she’s not letting it stop her either.”
