One of the most unexpected political feuds to emerge in the days leading up to the 2016 presidential election is back on, with Debra Messing reigniting her Twitter war with Susan Sarandon — who, like Messing, is an avowed liberals.
As you may recall, Messing took issue with Sarandon’s unwavering support for Bernie Sanders even after Hillary Clinton was declared the Democratic nominee, with Sarandon expressing her belief that a Donald Trump presidency would be less harmful to the nation than if the former Secretary of State and First Lady were in the Oval Office.
While Sarandon, 71, is no fan of Trump — she was recently arrested at an anti-Trump protest rally — she continues to declare that a Clinton presidency would have been far worse than what’s going on now.
In a recent interview during the Toronto International Film Festival, Sarandon, discussed what she sees as a silver lining in Trump’s electoral victory.
“What he’s done that is the most significant is that… unintentionally he has energized… he is so bumbling, he’s like a character out of a cartoon or something, that you can’t not be aware of what’s going on now,” she told Variety of the president.
“And so you’re seeing an enormous amount of people that are using that, and are running and are winning,” she said, pointing to recent electoral victories for women and people of colour.
Messing, 50, however, continues to not see eye to eye with Sarandon, and blasted her frequent Twitter foe in a series of incendiary tweets, beginning by telling her to “STFU SUSAN.”
Way back in 2016, Sarandon addressed her feud with the “Will & Grace” star during an appearance on “Watch What Happens Live”.
“Debra has too much time on her hands,” Sarandon said of Messing. “I don’t know… She kept going and going and going. And then finally after a while I said, ‘Debra, look, report me to the homeroom teacher and let’s just stop.’ But I haven’t talked to her since.”
