Netflix has unveiled the very first trailer for the upcoming “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina”, from the creators of “Riverdale”.
The series marks the long-overdue return of Sabrina Spellman from the much-loved show “Sabrina the Teenage Witch”, dropping on October 26 just in time for Halloween.
Despite the series featuring Sabrina, the creepy teaser proves it’s very different from the previous show. “Mad Men” alum Kiernan Shipka takes on the lead role in the clip, with a chilling version of “Happy Birthday” playing in the background as she’s presented with a cake.
The synopsis reads: “‘Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’ imagines the origin and adventures of ‘Sabrina the Teenage Witch’ as a dark coming-of-age story that traffics in horror, the occult and, of course, witchcraft.
“Tonally in the vein of ‘Rosemary’s Baby’ and ‘The Exorcist’, this adaptation finds Sabrina wrestling to reconcile her dual nature — half-witch, half-mortal — while standing against the evil forces that threaten her, her family and the daylight world humans inhabit.”
Miranda Otto, Lucy Davis, Ross Lynch, Michelle Gomez, Chance Perdomo, and Jaz Sinclair also star in the show.
The trailer comes after Melissa Joan Hart, who took on the role of Sabrina in the original series, which ran from 1996 to 2003, told Entertainment Weekly the new show was more like “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”.
