Former Daily Show correspondent Samantha Bee is striking out on her own, and today appeared at the TV Critics Association press tour in Pasadena, California, to give journalists a first look at her upcoming late-night comedy show, Full Frontal With Samantha Bee.
The show, she told journos, will “take stories we don’t think receive enough attention and stab them with the hot poker of comedy,”; following a promo clip that didn’t look all that different from the kind of things she used to do on The Daily Show.
In explaining what the show will look like, Bee revealed she won’t be sitting behind a desk, and the set will feature “a lot of space”; in which she can move around, while the show will include a lot of pre-taped segments.
The weekly show, set to debut on TBS on Feb. 8, will differentiate itself by spoofing weekly newsmagazine shows of the 60 Minutes/20/20 ilk, and, unlike pretty much every other late-night show, won’t rely on celebrity interviews.
Each episode, however, will include a “third act in which we can put anything we want,”; she said, adding: “Our world of whimsy.”;
