Padma Lakshmi has picked a side in the Susan Sarandon and Debra Messing Twitter war.
The “Top Chef” host, 48, stood up for her longtime pal Sarandon after Messing called her out for her political views.
On Monday, in an interview with Variety, the “Thelma And Louise” star said she thinks Donald Trump inspired more women to run for office.
“STFU SUSAN,” Messing, 50, wrote. “Oh yes, PLEASE let’s give Trump CREDIT. I mean how else are you able to walk out on the street. Convince yourself that this CATASTROPHE of a President who you said was better than [Hillary Clinton] IS NOT ripping children away from parents seeking asylum.”
Sarandon responded, “Debs, before you get yourself all self-righteous try clicking on the video and listening to what I actually say, not Variety’s clickbait headline”.
But on Friday, Lakshmi clapped back, “I’ve known Susan Sarandon for a decade. There are very few actresses who are such dedicated humanitarians and activists. Instead of vilifying someone for endorsing a third party candidate in 2016, why not focus on what you’re doing in your community to create change?”
“Sometimes we have different opinions than our friends or people in our industry but it’s important to have a dialogue to learn and grow,” she continued in a second tweet. “This ‘cancel’ culture and progressive infighting isn’t the solution. Stop bullying Susan.”
The feud between Messing and Sarandon has been brewing since the 2016 U.S. Presidental election when Sarandon publicly supported a third party candidate. Messing believed that Sarandon indirectly supported Trump by not voting for Hillary Clinton.
