Justin Bieber wants to become a dual Canadian-American citizen, it’s been reported.
According to TMZ, Bieber, 24, is planning to “retain his Canadian citizenship,” but given that he spends most of his time in the U.S. anyway, it’s no surprise he wants to apply to become an American citizen as well.
The hitmaker, from Stratford, Ontario, is also set to marry fiancee Hailey Baldwin, 21, born in Tucson, Arizona.
TMZ stated that Bieber now has to undergo steps including a background check by the FBI, fingerprinting, a citizenship interview and appear at an oath ceremony to pledge alliance to the U.S.
ET Canada has contacted Bieber’s rep for further comments.
The latest Bieber news comes after it was rumoured that he and Baldwin had secretly tied the knot just over two months after getting engaged.
Despite the claims, Baldwin has since taken to Twitter to insist this is definitely not the case.
The model, who has seemingly since deleted the post, tweeted: “I understand where the speculation is coming from, but I’m not married yet.”
A source had wrongly told People, “They went ahead and did it without listening to anyone.”
TMZ previously reported the couple were seen “inside the Marriage Bureau in NYC.”
