Phoenix will star as The Joker in the new movie with the iconic Robert De Niro, “Deadpool 2” star Zazie Beetz and “GLOW” actor Marc Meron set to appear.

Warner Bros. is taking a new approach when it comes to their DC Comics properties. Just because Phoenix will play The Joker in their new origin movie does not mean Jared Leto can’t or won’t reprise his “Suicide Squad” role in a separate project.

Other actors to take on the Clown Prince of Crime include Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger, with the latter winning a posthumous Oscar for his performance.
