Fans who were searching for Donald Glover in the audience at the Emmys on Monday night got a huge surprise.

Early in the show as the award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, which Glover was nominated for, was being handed out, the camera turned toward the “Atlanta” creator and star.

Only instead of Glover, sitting in his place was the actor’s creepy white alter ego from “Atlanta”, Teddy Perkins.

Glover lost the award to Bill Hader for his work in “Barry”, so audiences didn’t get to see whatever it was the actor had planned had he been called up to the stage to accept the prize.

The Teddy Perkins character, played by Glover in heavy makeup, appeared in an episode of the second season of “Atlanta”, though it appears at the Emmys he was played by Glover’s co-star Lakeith Stanfield.
