As the Emmys are a live TV event, like any big live broadcast it’s the response on social media that keeps it fun.
Twitter kept track of its users’ responses throughout the 70th Emmy Awards on Monday night, and it turns out the most-tweeted-about moment of the evening was also the most surprising.
Oscar telecast director Glenn Weiss’ marriage proposal on stage in the middle of his acceptance speech took the top spot in terms of Twitter reaction, including those from celebrities.
Coming in behind the wild moment were Peter Dinklage’s win for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama, Matthew Rhys winning Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama, Regina King taking Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series and finally “Game of Thrones” winning its third award for Outstanding Drama Series.
When it came to which celebs received the most mentions, Canadian “Killing Eve” star Sandra Oh was the most-talked-about, with Betty White, Darren Criss, Dinklage, and Claire Foy behind her.
“Game of Thrones” was the most-tweeted-about show of the night, with “The Assassination of Gianni Versace”, “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”, “This Is Us”, and “The Crown” also getting plenty of mentions.
Meanwhile, back on the red carpet, it was actresses Jenifer Lewis, Oh, and Scarlett Johansson who received the most attention for their looks.
Celebs were also on Twitter, both at home and at the show, sending their congratulations to their peers.
