Kevin Hart and Ice Cube team up again for the hilarious “Ride Along 2″ set to the backdrop of sizzling South Beach. The duo sat down with us for an interview in Miami where we chatted about the success of the first “Ride Along”;- a smash success grossing more than $154 million worldwide at the box office, arguably putting comedian Kevin Hart on everyone’s radar.
Now two years later, the sequel hopes to cash in again and with Kevin and Ice Cube’s chemistry, we could be in the midst of a franchise.
Talk about “Ride Along”; being a surefire hit from the moment they started writing script, they knew they had a different concept: “We had that feeling, you have that feeling when you’re shooting a movie. Things fall into place perfectly, you start to say “hey man, we definitely got something we enjoy.’ Knowing our audience like we do, we know what our audience is really going to accept, enjoy and want to be a part of,”; says Ice Cube.
Hart says he loved his character Ben Barber, who graduates from the Police Academy and tries to make it as a detective, all while being a control freak with planning his wedding.
Asked if he was a “groomzilla”; in planning his real life off-screen wedding to Eniko Parrish, Hart reveals he wants nothing to do with planning his wedding. Ice Cube jokes, “he’s in denial,”; adding, “he thinks he’s gonna escape not doing nothing. Every man has this plan, but by June, he’s gonna be arguing with someone!”;
Hart says the only thing he would want to be responsible for is the music, but he can’t because he knows too many artists and would never call on his friends to perform at his wedding.
He jokes about how his father would freak out if Ice Cube started rapping: “Even if he would, do you understand what that would mean if my dad is at the wedding and Cube comes out “Aaaaiiiiigt y’all know what it is, GET UP old man before I knock your ass out!!!'”;
“Ride Along 2″ hits theatres on January 15.
