Ahead of the season-15 premiere of “The Voice” on Monday, fans of the show are already buzzing about one contestant: 13-year-old Kennedy Holmes.
In a preview for the new season, the Florissant, Missouri teen takes the stage during the blind auditions with a powerful performance of Adele’s “Turning Tables”, which prompts all four coaches to turn their chairs.
“I think you’re the best vocalist that has auditioned this year,” says Blake Shelton. “Your voice already sounds so seasoned, accomplished, and so much control, so much range. Oh my gosh!”
Holding back tears, Kelly Clarkson adds, “You deserved every one of these chairs turning around, girl. You sound so beautiful.”
As Jennifer Hudson begins to sing her praise, Holmes breaks down, revealing that the singer’s song “I Am Changing” from “Dreamgirls” was one of the first songs she ever performed and she has always wanted to sing it with the star.
“I’m ready,” Hudson says amid cheers from the crowd and gets up from her chair to perform it with Holmes.
Following their duet, Hudson exclaims, “You are so gifted. You are a star. It was a pleasure just to sing with you.”
Meanwhile, hoping for Holmes to join his team, Adam Levine adds, “You really could become the absolute biggest thing to ever be on this show.”
While the clip leaves viewers wondering who Holmes will choose, many fans speculate that the singer, who comes from a musical theatre background and played Little Inez in “Hairspray” in 2015, will join Team Hudson.
