Planned Harley Quinn/Joker Spinoff Movie May Feature The Kidnapping Of Dr. Phil

Dr. Phil may be playing a pivotal role in an upcoming DC Universe spinoff movie.

While Joaquin Phoenix is already on set filming “Joker”, Warner Bros. is toying with the idea of a “Suicide Squad” offshoot, in which Jared Leto reprises his Joker along with Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn.

Now, in an interview with Metro, “This Is Us” writers Glenn Ficarra and John Requa talk about the script they worked on for the Joker/Harley Quinn film.

“The whole thing starts with Harley kidnapping Dr. Phil — played by Dr. Phil, hopefully — because her and the Joker are having problems with their relationship,” Ficarra explains. “We had so much fun, I don’t know if we have had more fun writing a script in our career.”

Ficarra continues, “We wrote ‘Bad Santa’ a couple of years ago, and it was that sensibility mixed with our ‘This Is Us’ sensibility. We kind of meshed them together. We were doing a relationship movie but with the sensibility of a ‘Bad Santa’, f**ked up, mentally deranged people. It was a lot of fun.”

Asked if they know when the film might finally come to the big screen, Requa says, “I don’t know where it is on the queue of DC movies.”

In the meantime, fans of the infamous Batman villain have plenty to look forward to in director Todd Phillips’ “Joker” starring Phoenix, set for release Oct. 4, 2019.
