She’s earned rave reviews for her performance in Brooklyn, and now, Irish-American actress Saoirse Ronan has an Academy Award nomination to show for it.

“I was asleep and my mom ran into the room,”; Ronan tells ET Canada of when she got the news. “I had earplugs in, so all I could hear was, “The Oscars! You’re going to the Oscars!'”;

In addition to Ronan’s nomination, the Irish-British-Canadian co-production also earned nominations for Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Picture. “I heard a few minutes later that the film got nominated, and that for me was really amazing,”; she says.

With a few weeks left before the big night, Ronan is sure to be hitting the press circuit, and she hopes the exposure will help people learn the correct pronunciation of her name! “If I cover all the talk shows in America, and L.A., and New York, I’ll cover everyone and everyone will have [it] in their head,”; she jokes.

Aside from her own, Ronan is also quick to throw her weight behind other powerful performances this year. “I really was, kind of, knocked off my feet by Cate [Blanchett]’s performance in Carol, and Rooney [Mara]’s as well,”; the actress gushes. “It kind of stayed with me for days afterwards. So I loved them in that.”;
