Kat Von D and husband Rafael Reyes (a rock singer who goes by the stage name Leafar Seyer) are expecting their first child, and the former “LA Ink” star reveals that when the big day arrives she’s planning to utilize the services of a midwife instead of a doctor.
Chatting on “Dr. Berlins’s Informed Pregnancy Podcast”, the 36-year-old expectant mom recalled visiting two OBGYNs, leaving the first doctor’s office with “a million questions and a sense of doom and fear.”
Visiting the second MD, she added, didn’t go a whole lot better, spending so much time completing paperwork that she found the entire interaction to be “completely impersonal.”
It wasn’t until she watched the childbirth documentary “The Business of Being Born”, she revealed, that she decided a midwife would be a better option for her. “The minute we met [midwife] Sarah, it was like, ‘OK, let’s get excited now.’ It was so much fun … like, ‘This is really happening. This is how it’s supposed to feel,'” she said.
She also opened up about struggling with her body image due to her pregnancy weight gain, even though she knows she shouldn’t.
“I think a lot of women want to be like, ‘I’m cool with stretch marks and my body changing,’” she added. “To be honest, I thought I’d be a lot cooler with it, but I’m struggling with my weight gain. I know I’m healthy… but I was expecting to not be as affected by it… I’m self-conscious.”
However, the tattooed makeup mogul admitted that she’s really not that discouraged by stretch marks, which she compares to tattoos in that they’re “like a landmark in time,” adding: “Right now my boob is the size of [my husband’s] head … I think ultimately as long as my husband adores me, I’m fine. I just want to be able to look in the mirror and feel the same way.”
