Kanye West Is Changing His Name Ahead Of ‘SNL’ Appearance

Kanye West is following in the footsteps of fellow musical artists such as Sting, Diddy and Prince by proclaiming that he’s changing his name to a single moniker.

In a tweet he issued on Saturday, “the being formally known as Kanye West” announced that he will henceforth be known as “YE.”

While he’s been going by the nickname “YE” for some time, in a recent interview he explained that there’s also religious significance to his new name.

“I believe YE is the most commonly used word in the Bible,” he told Real 92.3’s Big Boy back in June. “In the Bible it means ‘you.’ So I’m you, I’m us. It went from being Kanye, which means the only one, to being just YE — just being a reflection of our good, our bad, our confused, everything. I’m just more a reflection of who we are.”

The “being formerly known as Kanye West” will make his debut as YE on the season premiere of “Saturday Night Live”, airing Saturday, Sept. 29 at 8:30 p.m. PT/11:30 p.m. ET on Global.
