Eagles singer and guitarist Glenn Frey died on Monday in New York City, Entertainment Tonight confirms.

The 67-year-old rock veteran, who underwent intestinal surgery back in November, took a “turn for the worse” in the past weeks when his condition relapsed before the holidays, TMZ reports.

A message from his wife Cindy Millican was posted on his official website, stating that the singer “succumbed to complications from Rheumatoid Arthritis, Acute Ulcerative Colitis and Pneumonia.”

“The Frey family would like to thank everyone who joined Glenn to fight this fight and hoped and prayed for his recovery,” the message continued. “Words can neither describe our sorrow, nor our love and respect for all that he has given to us, his family, the music community & millions of fans worldwide.

Frey’s health issues forced the Eagles to cancel a performance at the Kennedy Centre Honours in December.

Frey launched several hit songs during his time with the Eagles, including “Hotel California,” “Take It Easy,” “Tequila Sunrise,” “Lyin’ Eyes” and “Heartache Tonight,” among many others.

After disbanding in 1980, the singer enjoyed solo success with songs “The Heat Is On” and “You Belong to the City,” and kicked off a short acting career on “Miami Vice” in 1985.

Following their 1994 reunion, the Eagles launched the successful Hell Freezes Over Tour, and in 2015 were among Forbes’ list of highest-paid musicians of the year.
