Judd Apatow has been behind such big-screen comedy hits as The 40 Year Old Virgin and Knocked Up, and last year made Amy Schumer a household name with Trainwreck.
“It’s pretty shocking,”; Apatow tells ET Canada. “I mean, it was shocking that the movie turned out well and what an amazing actress she is. But everything else she does, her show is brilliant, you know, she’s doing this area concert tour, she had this HBO special, she was amazing in Saturday Night Live, she’s just knocking it out of the park in every possible space and medium.”;

Apatow is also the exec producer of Lena Dunham’s Girls, which will end its run on HBO after season six.
“Girls has been the best experience I’ve had creatively and it really has been a dream situation where, working with Lena and Jenny Connor and the whole thing has been fun, beginning to end,”; he says. “It’s going to be the saddest thing ever, I mean we are almost mentally preparing. But it did feel like a logical and as the show reaches, you know, the end of their 20s to say, you know, that’s what the show was about, and that period.”;

Apatow’s latest is Love, an edgy romantic comedy — call it an “unromantic comedy”; in which a nerdy guy (Paul Rust) embarks on an unusual relationship with a quirky woman (Gillian Jacobs, Community).
“There is nothing more awkward than trying to meet somebody,”; admits Apatow (who is married to actress Leslie Mann). “I was the most awkward single person ever. I couldn’t get past the fact that if I walked up to a woman in a bar and said “Hello,’ that we understood that the code was, “Do you like me?’ “Will you sleep with me?’ Even just saying hello to me felt like my entire self esteem was just hanging in the balance, you know. So I found that so weird, so I like to write about it because I feel like it is very loaded, people really want to be happy, they want to be in a relationship so every detail of it is high stakes.”;
