Donald Trump was criticized on social media this week after telling ABC News reporter Cecilia Vega, “You’re not thinking, you never do.”
Seth Meyers ripped into the U.S. president during “A Closer Look” segment on “Late Night” on Tuesday.
“I mean, how much of a sexist d**k can you possibly be?” Meyers asked after playing a clip of the incident. “It’s almost like he saw someone else getting attention for acting like a maniac on TV and thought, I can top that.”
Trump, who held the press conference this week to discuss a new North American free trade agreement, agreed to have Vega ask him a question. However, when she didn’t immediately respond, he said: “She’s shocked that I picked her. She’s in a state a shock.”
Cecilia then said, “I’m not, thank you Mr. President.”
Trump replied: “That’s okay, I know you’re not thinking, you never do,” as Vega asked: “I’m sorry?”
The president added, “No, go ahead. Go ahead,” before refusing to answer her question, instead insisting he’d rather talk about trade.
Vega then took to Twitter later Monday to insist: “A news conference means you get to ask whatever question you want to ask. #FirstAmendment.”
She was immediately inundated with support from social media users. See some of the response below:
