Pop star Ke$ha shares the February cover of Seventeen with a special little furry friend, a cute little kitten, so it’s no surprise that the party girl and musician is a huge animal lover.

She opens up with the magazine about her passion for creatures of all kinds: “I’ve been involved in animal rights issues and animal activism since I was little because my family’s really involved with it.”;

The Humane Society International Global Ambassador reveals she grew up in a house where rescuing animals was “just part of what we do.”; She explains, “My mom rescues dogs from all over the world… we play music and we rescue animals.”;

And Ke$ha had a number of wild encounters after her last tour, when she went on what she calls a “spirit journey.”; “I went from scuba diving with sharks in the Galapagos and then I went free diving with whales and then I went to South Africa and I was rehabilitating lions at a sanctuary,”; she tells Seventeen. “So it’s a role I take super seriously… I love animals.”;
