Jim Carrey received a bad omen heading into his “Saturday Night Live” audition.
“I got out of the car in the parking lot, and there was a person trying to work up the guts to commit suicide on the building on NBC in Burbank,” Carrey recalled of his failed “SNL” audition. “I walked into the building not knowing whether he did it.”
Carrey, 56, shared the startling story while discussing his new Showtime series “Kidding” at the New Yorker Festival, according to The Vulture.
“All the new crews were gathering around the building. I went, That’s not probably a good sign,” he added.
“The Mask” actor was unsuccessful on that day but did eventually get his big break as a regular cast member on the sketch comedy show “In Living Color”.
“SNL” showrunner Lorne Michaels previously had this to say about Carrey’s failed audition: “I wasn’t at the Jim Carrey audition, but somebody who was there said, ‘I don’t think Lorne would like it,’ and they were probably wrong, but it doesn’t matter. Or maybe they were right — who knows? No one gets it all right.”
Carrey stars in the new comedy-drama “Kidding”.
