The first Monday in May 2019 just got a lot more interesting.
Met Gala officials have chosen Lady Gaga, Harry Styles and Serena Williams as the co-chairs for the annual event, with 2019’s theme: “Camp: Notes on Fashion.”
Along with the trio, Gucci’s creative director Alessandro Michele will act as a co-chair along with Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour.
The theme was inspired by Susan Sontag‘s 1964 essay Notes on Camp.
Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute’s curator Andrew Bolton explained that Sontag argued that camp is the “love of the unnatural: of artifice and exaggeration… style at the expense of content… the triumph of the epicene style.”
Gaga and Williams have attended the annual ball in the past, Styles will make his first appearance. Last year’s co-chairs were Amal Clooney and Rihanna.
The 2019 MET Gala will take place on May 6.
