NBC Nightly News anchor Lester Holt and his crew were forced to barricade themselves inside a hotel room Wednesday as Hurricane Michael hit Florida.
Holt, who has since assured people on Twitter that he and his team are all good, was reporting on the Category 4 storm when things got so bad they had to take a break from filming.
Hurricane Michael, which is the third-strongest storm to ever hit the mainland U.S., has so far killed at least two people, including an 11-year-old, and caused mass destruction.
Holt said on air: “Put this mattress in front of the window; we want to be on the air but we’ve gotta take care of each other. Know that we’re safe, but we’re going to have to sign off.”
It was reported Thursday that Michael had hit up to 155 m.p.h. winds when it battered northwest Florida but had now been downgraded to a tropical storm while on its way to the Carolinas.
