Aretha Franklin is a musical genius, no doubt.
That is one of the reasons National Geographic has eyed her as the subject of “Genius” season three. Franklin’s portrayal will follow Albert Einstein’s in season one and Pablo Picasso in season two.
“While sources close to the matter caution that there are still hurdles in securing all the rights necessary, I hear that everyone involved feels optimistic,” said Deadline‘s Nellie Andreeva.
The creative team is reportedly moving forward with the project even though the rights have not been entirely secured.
Season one starred Geoffrey Rush as Einstein and Antonio Banderas played Picasso in season two. It will be interesting to see who is cast as the “Chain of Fools” singer.
Franklin, 76, died from pancreatic cancer on Aug. 16.
