A scheduled TimesTalk event with Kanye West and Charlamagne Tha God has been cancelled.
The pair were set to discuss radio host Charlamagne’s new book, Shook One: Anxiety Playing Tricks on Me, mental health issues, and how to break free from anxiety and fears to achieve success. Charlamagne now says the talk has been cancelled because it would “not be productive.”
“Normalizing being mentally healthy is a conversation that I really wanted to have with Kanye because he’s been so vocal about his own mental health struggles,” he says in a statement. “Unfortunately I think to have that conversation with him right now would not be productive and a total distraction from the point of the convo, which is to eradicate the stigma of mental health, especially in the black community.”
Last week, a MAGA hat-wearing West raised eyebrows with his bizarre meeting with Donald Trump in the Oval Office, a meeting which included a 10-minute freestyle rap and a pitch for a hydrogen-powered Air Force One. His controversial off-camera speech about politics on the season premiere of “SNL” also made headlines with cast members, including host Adam Driver walking off stage during his pro-Trump rant.
