Ellie Goulding and photographer pal Conor McDonnell were travelling through Norway when a nighttime trek over a frozen lake almost took a deadly turn.
In a recent Instagram post, McDonnell describes how he and the “Burn”; singer were driving across a frozen lake in pitch-black conditions when the ice suddenly cracked, sending the two scrambling to escape through the roof of the vehicle before it was swallowed by the icy water.

“ ’Oh s-‑‑ we’re in’ was my first [thought],” McDonnell writes in the caption for the pic, in which the vehicle is sinking into the frigid water. “Second was to take photos. We were in the front cabin. That is pretty much under water in this photo. A few minutes later it was all completely gone under the water and ice for good.”
