You may think you know Dakota Johnson from her role as Anastasia Steele in “Fifty Shades of Grey”;, but NET-A-PORTER’s The EDIT magazine assures you that the 26-year-old actress is far from her reserved on-screen character. In fact, Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson’s daughter claims to be something of a wild child, regretting her decision to have her “annoying”; tattoos.
The weekly digital magazine met with Hollywood’s breakout star to talk about leaving L.A. to escape fame, watching her famous parents Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson perform sex scenes with other people on set and crying during the Golden Globes. Johnson also talks to The EDIT about her gruelling preparation for back-to-back filming of Part 2 and 3 of the blockbuster “Fifty Shades”; franchise, which includes saying goodbye to her beloved family and friends, and “no longer dating bread”;.
When it comes to her parents, she grew up watching them perform: “I was around for a lot of it and I would watch them. But there were also things I could see that I didn’t want to, like watch my parents [pretend to] have sex with other people. And there was a scene where my mom got slapped in the face. I lost my mind! I couldn’t deal with that at all.”;
On moving away from Hollywood to escape being a “celebrity”;, she says, “I understood that my family was famous. I saw the way it felt from the inside, and that put me off ever feeling like I was capable of gawking at someone because they were famous.”;
In terms of her character in “Fifty Shades of Grey”;, Johnson notes that while she’s “a quiet observer,”; like Anastasia, and overly sensitive (she says she cried four times at the Golden Globes), she’s always had a problem sticking to the rules. “[Growing up] I was demure some of the time, but also outspoken… I was ‘colourful’. I didn’t abide by rules very well. I was like a wild, feral little child.”;
“I went through a phase where I loved tattoos, and I loved the feeling of getting tattooed,”; she adds. “But now I’ve outgrown them mostly, and [because] I always have to cover them for jobs, God, they’re annoying! Basically, I really should have listened to everyone. But therein lies my problem in life!”;
Even her co-star in the new comedy “How To Be Single”;, Leslie Mann, agrees that Johnson would not abide by Christian’s rules in real life. At ELLE“s 2015 Women In Hollywood Awards, Mann quipped, “In real life, I feel like [Dakota] would eat Christian Grey. She would suspend him from the ceiling and smack him open like a piñata.”
Johnson is currently in the process of getting ready to shoot Part 2 and 3 of “Fifty Shades of Grey”; and doesn’t seem that thrilled to give up carbs. “(I have a few more weeks) to get ready to crawl into a hole for six months, say goodbye to my friends and my life, and stop dating bread,” she tells The EDIT.
