The legend of King Arthur and the sword in the stone is getting an update in a new family-friendly fantasy flick from the director of “Attack The Block”.
Director Joe Cornish brings the action to the playground in “The Kid Who Would Be King”, in which a young Alex pull Arthur’s storied sword out of the rubble to form a modern Knights of the Roundtable with his classmates. The kids must battle the evil medieval witch Morgana (Rebecca Ferguson) and her legion of the undead with the wizard Merlin (Patrick Stewart) as their guide. To maintain the schoolyard theme, Merlin transforms himself into a teen boy (played by Angus Imrie) to keep his eye on the knights’ training.
The film’s young leads have some prestigious acting parentage: Ashbourne Serkis, who plays Alex, is the son of mo-cap actor Andy Serkis, while Imrie is the son of Celia Imrie and British stage actor Benjamin Whitrow.
The adventure movie will hit theatres on March 1, 2019.
