For decades, young readers have enjoyed the exploits of Archie Andrews and his pals in the Archie comics, but TV viewers may soon be watching the adventures of Archie, Jughead, Betty, Veronica and the rest of the gang in a new teen drama on The CW network.
As reported by Variety, producer Greg Berlanti (who already produces such CW series as The Flash, Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow) will be producing a pilot called Riverdale based on the Archie comics.
Riverdale, however, promises to be something of a departure from the wholesome comics. Set in the present day, Variety describes the project as “a surprising and subversive take on Archie, Betty, Veronica and their friends, exploring the surrealism of small town life — the darkness and weirdness bubbling beneath Riverdale’s wholesome façade.”;
If the pilot gets picked up to series, look for Riverdale to join The CW’s fall 2016 schedule.
