The hosts of Global‘s “The Talk” are used to offering their opinions on the news of the day, but things took an awkward turn when that news involved the husband of one of their own when CBS chairman Les Moonves — who has been married to the show’s Julie Chen since 2004 — resigned after numerous allegations of sexual misconduct were outlined in a shocking expose by Ronan Farrow.
Moonves’ resignation not only sent shockwaves throughout Hollywood, it led to Chen stepping away from the show she’s co-hosted since its launch.
The newest member of “The Talk” family, Eve, spoke with Variety‘s Marc Malkin about Chen’s exit, and admitted it was difficult for everyone at the show.
“It was extremely hard, because of the things that we talk about,” Eve told Malkin at Thursday night’s amfAR Gala in Los Angeles. “We’re very honest women on that show. And especially for me, being my first year, was like, ‘Really guys?’ I really have grown to care for Julie and I consider her a friend now.”
As Eve explained, she and her fellow co-hosts were as blindsided by the news as viewers were.
“No one knew before anyone else. There wasn’t like a thing where, someone suspected or someone was talking to [Chen],” Eve added. “The higher-ups kind of told us, the EPs, who are amazing, who are incredible, who pull us together every day, made it easy for us.”
Losing the woman who served as the show’s anchor has likewise been a struggle, but Eve chooses to look at the positives. “I think it’s brought us closer as a cast, which is really true,” she said. “We miss her, for sure. But at the same time, we’re dedicated to keeping the show and making the show amazing. That’s the best way that I can say it, it’s us figuring out that new normal. And I think we’re figuring it out.”
