Billionaire James Packer is opening up about his high profile split from Mariah Carey.
In an excerpt from his new biography The Price of Fortune: The Untold Story of Being James Packer published by The Daily Telegraph, the Australian businessman gets candid about his 18-month relationship with the singer.
The two called it quits in 2016, breaking off their engagement.
“By the time the Israel so-called Case 1000 had become public, the China arrests and Crown’s sale of Macau had occurred and the breakup with Mariah had happened, I had become toxic,” the 51-year-old says.
Packer also denies leaking details of his reported $50 million settlement with Carey, saying, “I had absolutely nothing to do with the story.”
In another excerpt published by Who magazine, Packer describes their relationship as fun, but confesses he was struggling with his mental health at the time.
“I was in a bad, bad way,” he said.
Packer and Carey first met in 2013 and eventually began dating before becoming engaged. They called off the engagement suddenly in October 2016.
