Will and Jada Pinkett Smith discussed the harder times in their marriage as they sat down with their daughter Willow and Jada’s mom Adrienne Banfield-Jones for the latest episode of “Red Table Talk”.
The group discussed everything from the moment Will and Jada met to the actress admitting to having to “sacrifice” her life to make Will happy.
Speaking of the moment she knew she was expecting the couple’s eldest son Jaden, Jada explained: “I knew the moment after the act I was pregnant. Four seconds after we had sex. We only got married because Gammy was crying.”
The star went on to go into detail about never wanting to tie the knot, admitting: “I never wanted to be married. I was so upset that I had to have a wedding, I cried the whole way.”
Will, however, insisted that he’d been dreaming about having a family since he was 5-years-old.
The showbiz duo, who didn’t swear or raise their voice at one another for 20 years, then spoke about agreeing to “not use profanity” in their relationship, due to the actor having grown up around his dad hitting his mom.
Admitting things would get “bad” if they were to do so, Jada shared: “We couldn’t afford to, because it could get ugly. We would’ve killed each other, it would’ve got bad.”
As the couple went on to discuss having everything “externally,” Will admitted that he was the one that always wanted the “picture perfect” lifestyle. Jada, on the other hand, did not.
Will explained, “As a couple we are magical, we win in the material world. There was a period where mommy woke up and cried 45 days straight. It was every morning, that’s the worst I’ve ever felt in our marriage. I was failing miserably.
“Jada’s an actress, she had two babies, she had to be home raising her babies while I got to do everything I wanted to do. She was sacrificing herself to fit my picture.
“I felt that money and winning made a good relationship. You [Jada] were trapped in a life that you didn’t build and you didn’t want.”
The tell-all interview also saw Jada admit that before she met her future husband, Will, she went on a date with Will’s “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” co-star Alfonso Ribeiro. As well, Will admitted to going to the “A Different World” set with the hopes of meeting Jada, only to actually meet his ex-wife Sheree Zampino.
Will admitted before his ex filed for divorce, “I had to get up from dinner [one night] when I had a realization that I wasn’t with the person I was supposed to be with. I went to the bathroom at The Palm and broke down in tears. I was crying and laughing, I knew that [Jada] was the woman I was supposed to be with, but I was never getting divorced.”
