Prince Charles thought he and Princess Diana were incompatible.
That is according to a new royal autobiography written by Veteran royal correspondent Robert Jobson, who spent 18 months by Charles’ side on Royal tours.
“I desperately wanted to get out of the wedding in 1981, when during the engagement I discovered just how awful the prospects were,” Charles allegedly said. He reportedly decided to press forward with the wedding because it “would have been cataclysmic” to call it off.
The book says Charles wants to challenge “pernicious lies” about him, according to DailyMail.
Charles and Diana wed on July 29, 1981, at St Paul’s Cathedral in London. The “fairytale wedding” was witnessed by 750 million people globally on television.
The royal couple eventually separated in 1992 and divorced in 1996.
