Zoe Kravitz recreates her mom Lisa Bonet’s famous 1988 Rolling Stone cover in the latest issue of the magazine.
Kravitz, 29, poses fully naked for the publication’s Hot Issue, just like her mother did 30 years ago.
The actress explains that Bonet, who was two months pregnant with her at the time of the shoot, actually wanted the fully nude shot to go on the cover. However, the mag opted to use the one where she was covered up in a white shirt.
Zoe says, when asked about why she decided to pose for the issue, “I’ve always loved that cover so much. When I think of Rolling Stone, that’s always the image that pops into my head. It’s a really striking image of her. It’s beautiful.”

She explains to Josh Eells why she decided to be naked and recreate her mom Lisa Bonet's shoot from 30 years ago. “I’ve always loved that cover so much,” she says. “When I think of 'Rolling Stone,' that’s always the image that pops into my head. She adds, “I think she [Bonet] was a little bummed when they used the shirt picture as the cover. I think she just thought, I’m doing it, let’s do it!”
Kravitz says she wanted to strip off because that’s what her mom wanted to do: “It’s less about the picture and more about doing the thing my mom intended to do. That feels cool.”
Rolling Stone then asked the star what “hot” means to her, just like they did Bonet.
She explains, “To me, ‘hot’ means someone who’s vibrant and confident and comfortable with who they are. Young Mick Jagger. Aretha Franklin. When somebody allows themselves to be who they are unapologetically — and they’re a good person — that’s really hot.”
Bonet’s answer at the time read: “People think you’re hot if you’re on TV. To me, hot means uncompromising. It means nonconforming, not afraid, just be what you are and what you feel.”
Kravitz’s interview also sees her reveal some big engagement news. The actress is set to tie the knot with Karl Glusman after the actor popped the question in February.
She gushes, “Oh yeah, I’m engaged. I haven’t told anyone yet — I mean, I haven’t told the world. I wanted to keep it private.”
Kravitz says of the proposal, which was supposed to happen in Paris but ended up being in their living room after work commitments interfered with the plans: “I was in sweatpants. I think I was a little drunk.”
