At age 91, William Daniels carved out an impressive Hollywood career playing no-nonsense, tough-talking characters such as Dr. Mark Craig on “St. Elsewhere” and teacher Mr. Feeny on beloved sitcom “Boy Meets World”.
Over the weekend, the veteran actor proved to be just as tough as the characters he’s played, with TMZ reporting he thwarted a burglary attempt at his home.
According to TMZ, a would-be burglar attempted to kick in the back door of the L.A.-area home Daniels shares with his wife, actress Bonnie Bartlett, on Saturday night.
Daniels quickly sprang into action, turning on the home’s lights and alarming the thief, who then made a hasty retreat off the property.
“Luckily, Mr. Daniels was able to frighten away the person and the LAPD quickly responded,” a rep for the actor said in a statement
“They are both well,” added the rep of Daniels and his wife. “Mr. Daniels thanks all his fans for their concern.”
Daniels then poked fun at the whole thing during an interview with ABC News.
He joked, “I struggled with an intruder. Took him to the ground. I beat him up. And he ran away with bruises all over him. Would you like to print that? You better not, it’s a total lie.”
After news of the incident emerged, Daniels’ “Boy Meets World” co-stars Will Friedle and Danielle Fishel each him him a shout-out on Twitter.
As TMZ reports, police don’t believe the attempted robbery is related to a recent spate of high-profile burglaries targeting celebrities.
