Jennifer Lopez discusses her life and career in the December issue of InStyle, telling the magazine young stars have it easier now than she did during the time of her high-profile relationship with Ben Affleck.
“It was actually worse then. It was just crazy,” she recalls. Lopez and Affleck began dating in 2002 becoming the pre-eminent celeb super-couple “Bennifer” before calling off their engagement in 2004.
The actress says through Instagram and Twitter, she’s able to “show you who I am a little bit,” including details of her relationship with Alex Rodriguez. “Now people get to see that this guy they thought was this hard-nosed athlete is, like, a goofy dad who loves his kids and celebrates his girlfriend.
“Back then you just believed anything you read on the cover of a tabloid. Many times it wasn’t true, or it was like a third of the truth,” she says, admitting stars today have a different set of issues to navigate in the social media era, “but they didn’t live through the tabloid era.
“Now I sound like my mom,” she jokes. “‘I used to walk uphill to school before there were cars!'”
JLo’s issue of InStyle is on sale November 9.
