Gucci Mane has just dropped a funky new video, and he’s joined by some serious guest stars to recreate the vintage feel of a 1980s R&B supergroup as they get their collective groove on.
In the new music video for “Wake Up in the Sky”, the “I Got the Bag” rapper collaborates with Bruno Mars and Kodak Black, featuring some lush, luxe visuals as the artists show off their dance moves while attired in glittering retro outfits and plenty of bling.
Produced by Mars, DY, Tre and Tarentino, “Wake Up in the Sky” is the first single off Gucci Mane’s upcoming album Evil Genius, set to be released later this year.
In addition to producing the track, renaissance man Mars is also the video’s co-director, and the “Uptown Funk” singer jokingly solicited ideas for a name to dub the three-man group.
Ahead of Evil Genius’ release, Mane discussed why he’s releasing a full album as opposed to mixtapes.
“I hate to say it, but I don’t think [there’s] the same market for that — if I put out 15 mixtapes, they cannot really do what I need them to do,” he told GQ. “When I do put my songs out, I gotta put out a serious project that everybody gonna like. If I got 16 to 17 punches, I want those punches to count.””
