Avril Lavigne finally addressed the conspiracy theory that she actually died years ago and was replaced by a doppelganger as she was quizzed by Kyle and Jackie O Thursday.
The 34-year-old was asked by the KIIS 1065 hosts about the reports that hit the internet back in 2005, suggesting the Canadian rocker had been struggling to deal with fame so started using a body double named Melissa.
The theory claimed the singer then died and the record company decided to replace her full-time with the double. Fans insisted they had proof, citing Lavigne’s change in clothing and different facial features.
They also said “Melissa” alluded to the switch in songs such as “Head Above Water”.
Despite Lavigne keeping quiet about the rumours so far, Jackie asked her on the show: “What about, did you laugh at the rumours that went around where you no longer exist and there’s a clone of you?”
The star replied, “Yeah, some people think that I’m not the real me, which is so weird!
“Like, why would they even think that?” she added.
Lavigne also discussed her battle with Lyme disease, admitting she’s now working at being healthy, just like everybody else.
