A few months back, rumours were swirling that “Outlander” star Sam Heughan was in the running to replace Daniel Craig when he turns in his licence to kill after one final James Bond flick — even Diana Gabaldon, author of the Outlander book series, gave him her endorsement to be the next 007.
Those rumours came up when Heughan was a guest on Thursday’s edition of “Live With Kelly and Ryan”, when Ryan Seacrest told Heughan, “For me, you could have been James Bond. Have you ever thought about that?
“Have I thought about it? Yeah, I have a few times,” said Heughan.
“I did audition for Bond a long time ago when they were redoing it with Daniel Craig, when he was ‘Bond 21’,” revealed Heughan.
“They were going to go younger with him and it was a pretty good experience,” he added. “And it’s about time we got a Scottish Bond.”
While a decision has yet to be made as to who will fill filmdom’s most iconic tuxedo when Craig steps down from the role, fans can still watch Heughan in the fourth season of “Outlander”, which kicks off on Sunday, Nov. 4 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on W Network.
